F5: Handling HTTPS requests from SAP via a WD

Hi !

We have the below setup:

External World (HTTPS request) --> F5 --> HTTP request to SAP Web dispatcher --> HTTP request to SAP

Thus, the Web dispatcher works only on HTTP<-->HTTP.

The issue is there are some services in SAP, which work only on HTTPS.

Thus, these services pose a problem since the Web dispatcher does not support HTTPS. Thus, responses from SAP to the Web Dispatcher in HTTPS format result in Page errors.

Please kindly help advise how to set the F5 to handle requests of this nature.

Thanks a lot ! saba.

  • Hi !

Just to add some more information to my otherwise obscure message please :)...

    This is what we see:

Port 77 is the port defined on the Web Dispatcher for SAP & on the F5 too. This service (since it needs HTTPS) is using port 44321 (the SAP internal HTTPS port), thus resulting in a Page cannot be displayed message (since when it traverses through the Web Dispatcher it enters HTTP territory & the Web Dispatcher does not recognize HTTPS).

It should stay on port 77 & use the HTTPS certificate provided by the F5 instead.

    Please help advise......

Thanks a lot for your help ! Happy Wednesday. saba.
