F5 GTM Zonerunner CNAMEs

Hi,

We have just tried to create a CNAME record in Zonerunner, on our F5 GTMs, to point one of our DNS records (an A record Deleted before creating the CNAME record) to another DNS A record hosted by a partner company that control their own DNS.

Once we have completed the details and click "Finished", the CNAME entry we typed in gets our domain suffix appended to the CNAME, this not what we want, as we want to point to another domain.

Have we made a mistake?

Maybe misunderstood something?

Or could this be a bug(Unlikely we know)?

Their DNS A record exists, e.g. "PartnerB.b.com"

Our A record was Deleted.

We created a CNAME record for US.a.com to point to the CNAME "PartnerB.b.com".

After clicking finish, the CNAME gets our DNS suffix appended to it e.g. "PartnerB.b.com.a.com".

Version: BIG-IP 9.4.8 Build 355.0 Final

Thanks,

David.

  • Hi David, I was just wondering if you ever received an answer to this question? Thanks, Stephen
  • I run into this frequently. Zonerunner doesn't seem to consider it an FQDN without the dot appended at the end of the CNAME, and it will add the existing domain to complete the name. If you include the dot at the end of the record, then ZoneRunner will accept it as is without modification. e.g. "PartnerB.b.com." instead of "PartnerB.b.com"
