External Script

This is my first time trying to run a custom script. I created the script in the config\monitors directory and changed permissions to 700. When I go into the web interface to create the monitor I choose type external but my script will never show up in the External Program drop down menu. Is there something I am missing because I cant seem to find anything in the documentation. Thanks.
