Creating Diagram View for specific Virtual Servers

Definitely, there are ways to create such custom diagram and state views. For greater flexibility with dynamic configurations, you can create a dynamic group scoped on your desired F5 LTM Virtual Servers and contained pool members, nodes, etc. This dynamic group would serve then for your custom diagram view and state view. So here're the steps that I would recommend taking to have this accomplished. There could by other variations of having this done, buy you'll figure out the possibilities once you build up a first filtered view, using this approach:

 

 

1. First, create an override management pack, that would host all of the changes related to the customization that we're adding: Administration > Management Packs > right click > Create Management Pack > Name > etc. Let's name our override management pack for further reference F5 Override Management Pack.

 

 

2. Create a dynamic group scoped/filtered on the F5 LTM Virtual Servers:

 

- Authoring > Groups > right click > Create a new Group... > Name: let's name it for example "F5 LTM Virtual Server Filtered Group".

 

- Select destination management pack: F5 Override Management Pack

 

- Next (Explicit Members tab): here you can add explicit F5 LTM Virtual Servers; I would skip this step since we're targeting a more flexible (dynamic) scoping / filtering.

 

- Next (Dynamic Members tab): click Create/Edit rules > in the "Select the desired class..." drowp-down select the "F5 LTM Virtual Server" > click Add.

 

- if you want to further add filter conditions, such as a filter by IP address or Name you can click on the drop-down list showing up bellow the "AND group for F5 LTM Virtual Server" property entry and add your desired filters, for example based on IP addresses, naming conventions, etc; click OK when done here.

 

- Next (Subgroups tab): skip this for now (you could further filter your group here, based on pre-defined sub-groups)

 

- Next (Excluded Members tab): you can exclude objects here, based on pre-defined groups - say you'd like to show only certain pool members, not all of them; in this case you would define another group/dynamic group targeting your pool members and would reference that group here, as an inclusion or exclusion.

 

- When done, click "Create" and your dynamic group should show up in the Groups view; right click on it > View Diagram > you'll have to probably refresh the view until you get the filtered hierarchy of the F5 LTM Virtual Server.

 

 

3. Now that you have your dynamic group providing a filtered hierarchy for the F5 device, you can build up your custom diagram view, state view, etc., based on it.

 

- Create a new folder containing the views: Monitoring > right click on the Monitoring top node > New.. > Folder > Folder Name: set it to F5 Filtered Views, for example

 

- Select the destination management pack: F5 Override Management Pack

 

- Monitoring > Select the "F5 Filtered Views" folder > right click > New... > Diagram View > Name your diagram view: F5 LTM Virtual Servers Diagram View, for example

 

- Choose Target: Browse > select F5 LTM Virtual Servers Diagram View (you can start entering F5 LTM... and the browser will start looking up your more scoped entries)

 

- Check the "Create your own template" radio button (if you don't have other predefined templates you'd like to use for your diagram view)

 

- Leave all as defaults (you can always come back to these settings, with accessing the Properties).

 

- Click "Create" and your custom diagram view should now be created, reflecting your filtered view on your F5 LTM Virtual Servers.

 

 

4. You can follow similar steps as in (3) for creating you other views (state, alerts, etc)
