Mar 07, 2012Can't crawl using Sharepoint Search or Fast Search
Our environment contain F5 LTM 3600, sharepoint 2010 with SSL header turn on to accomodate SSL termination on F5. But when adding the URL to Sharepoint Search or Fast Search it gives a time out trying to crawl the sharepoint sites.
Would like find out if there is any solution to the problem.

Hi wyuen,
Have you checked the BIG-IP - Microsoft FAST deployment guide:

Which URL are you using, http or https? It's possible you may need to configure a virtual server on the local SharePoint server subnet and use host entries to direct the SharePoint servers to this internal VIP rather than the SSL VIP you've already created. Then you could enter your crawl targets as http sites. The instructions to do this are in the link hoolio provided above.

Does this apply to a Search Farm which two search servers ( Administration, Non-Administration)?
- mikeshimkus_111Historic F5 AccountYes, I don't think that should matter.

Hi,
I am in the process of creating the Irule, in our environment, we are using ssl termination, web acceleration with sharepoint. SSL is going to terminate on F5, when looking at the Irule example who do we add the irule to. - mikeshimkus_111Historic F5 AccountThe iRule should be added to the virtual server you created on the same subnet as the SharePoint servers. The SharePoint servers will need a host entry to point the site FQDNs to that virtual server address.

Would there be any chance you can go over the modifications with for the changes to incorporate the Fast Search module?
- mikeshimkus_111Historic F5 AccountDo you need guidance for configuring the BIG-IP, or the SharePoint/FAST servers? I'm happy to answer any specific questions you have.

Hi,
I mention that my environment contain 2 Sharepoint Front End server and 1 Sharepoint Application server.
Do I have to add the FQDN to all the sharepoint servers.
