Bigip 6900 usb boot problem
Hi,
I had to change both HDD's on a 6900. I was then going to image the disks with TMOS 10.1.0.
Beforehand I tested the reimage of a Bigip 3900 with the same USB CD-rom drive I was going to use on the 6900. Reimage of the 3900 was no problem, it booted on the USB CD-rom and I reimaged it.
When I tried to boot the USB CD-rom on the 6900 I dint get it to work after I installed the new disks. I checked boot order in BIOS, and read everything related to USB boot on ASKF5, but so far I am stuck.
Is there something I have forgotten to do on a 6900 to get it to boot on USB? Has it something to do that I have installed two new HDD's? The new disks were 1GB disks, the old ones was 320GB.
Regards
Bjarne

Can you explain in more detail what "I didn't get it to work..." means. Does it not boot from CD, or it boots but doesn't install or something else?

Basically the problem is that the 6900 will not boot on DVD. I have tested the same DVD and DVD Read on a 3900 where it works.
So any suggestion how I can make the 6900 boot on DVD would be much appreciated.
I have looked thru the BIOS settings, and everything looks ok there. - What_Lies_Bene1

I take it you've tried both USB ports?
Have you tried a USB memory stick instead?
Will it boot at all? - Bjarne_10209

I did try both USB ports. I have yet to try a USB stick, but by experience it’s easier to get a device to boot on dvd/cd then a USB stick.
I also tried to set the boot order for dvd/cd on different places, with HDD always on last.
The thing I noticed was the POST took a long time when I had the new HDD's installed, so I was wondering if there was something I had to do after replacing both HDD's, like clear CMOS, RAID config etc. - What_Lies_Bene1

OK. I've a feeling myself that swapping both the disks at once could also be a factor. Do you have a service contract? If so I'd recommend making use of F5 support for this one. - Bjarne_10209

I have contacted F5 support and the answer was this:
In the event the problem with the replacement 6900 is a possible incompatibility with the USB-DVD drive, I suggest we try a USB Thumb Drive install.
The USB-DVD works on a 3900, so in my book it should work on a 6900. It is a standard Samsung DVD-drive.
I will make a USB stick and try to boot the 6900 on that and see how that goes.
