Unless specifically configured to do so via an irule or similar, the BigIP itself will not generate a 504 Gateway Timeout error (or a 429 Too Many Request).

 

So it is most likely that this is an error from one (or all) of the pool members behind the virtual server. This is probably an application issue.

Yes there is no iRule and from the Virtual Server Config I see there is no connection and rate limit.
