  • We use a tool from Symphoniq called TrueSpeed to test end user response times and byte reduction, you can download a 45 day free trial from here http://www.symphoniq.com/go?341 (Click here). This will not perform load testing it will test only a single user.

It is also recommend to conduct testing from an actual end users perspective, such as introducing latency or low bandwidth, there are many tools out there that can simulate different network conditions. Testing from a LAN will usually not reveal any performance gains.
  • Services like Gomez are not actually good for measuring the benefits of WebAccelerator. While you do get the ability to measure from different link speeds and locations from around the world you need to be able to measure the benefits of a first time visitor as well as a repeat visitor. Gomez will only provide measurements for first time visits, there is no way to accurately measure the page as a repeat visitor with a populated cache. The benefits that WA provides with IBR are only measured as a repeat visitor.
  • Hi,

I am evaluating the BigIp WA myself.

For my testbed I have installed an Ubuntu server as a client gateway (Bridge or NAT depentent on scenario) with two nics and a nice script from Landesk named wansim.pl.

There are no need for installing additional modules on the Ubuntu distribution, the one you need is preinstalled (netem)

The script allows you to set packet delay and bandwith on the nics. Works great.

I use Firefox with Firebug and Yslow on a Windows XP client, and httpWatch on IE.

HW : the gateway is an old Dell Latitude with the builtin nic and an additional ST Labs usb modem.

Surprisingly easy to set up and maintain.

    Best
