Nimbostratusafter 3 years of flawless service one of our bigip 3600s is rebooting at random
i have a bigip 3600 that is rebooting randomly every 15-60 seconds since saturday. i suspect we have bad memory. i don't have a support contract so f5 is not going to help (not even enough to offer selling us spare parts for 10x actual cost :D)
just wondering if anyone out there has seen this and whether it should be treated like any other server hardware problem: replace memory, replace CPU, replace motherboard (the first we can do, the second two basically means going to eBay for a new unit).
just looking for advice, ~j

jcisek_41700btw, i observed and tried a few things via a serial connection from another server and later from a terminal once we took the unit back to the office. the reboot happens truly at random. sometimes while kernel is loading, other times the login prompt comes up and then reboot happens. i loaded the diagnostic tools and it rebooted so clearly it's not a software issue.

I have no experience with defective F5 hardware, but I'd pop that box open and see if a memory module could be removed. Hopefully there are at least 2 and likely both modules are not bad.

Like Nick says, definitely run the EUD and execute all of the tests. That should help isolate what the issue is.
- Christopher_BooI took his last comment to mean he tried to load EUD but it even rebooted then. Are there diagnostics other than EUD? I've only ever had to run EUD once and that was years ago. Chris
- Cory_50405If that's the case, then I doubt it's memory. Accessing via console takes you to the AOM subsystem. If that isn't stable, then it may be something more serious. Possibly power supply related? Without access to EUD or system logs, there isn't much troubleshooting that can be done if the system restarts itself so quickly.
- jcisek_41700Christopher is correct. EUD is failing the same way and i suspect it's the CPU or power supply.
- jcisek_41700i tried - unfortunately the system reboots while running them too. and not at any specific point. it's totally random regardless of what's running or not running. local hardware vendor who resells used bigips says if it's not the memory (which i'm pretty sure it is not) then it is something proprietary and not socketed, like the CPU which is built into the mobo.
