forward broadcast traffic through ltm

Hi guys,

I'm facing the following situation:

Client arrives from one side of the bigip needs to send broadcast traffic to a specific vlan behind the bigip (routed using a forwarding VS).

Ex.

1.1.1.1 has a route for 2.2.2.0/24 with gw 1.1.1.2 (bigip)

bigip has an arm on 2.2.2.0/0 with ip 2.2.2.1

My application on 1.1.1.1 needs to send broadcast traffic to the entire 2.2.2.0/24 so generates an udp packet with destination mac ff.ff.ff.ff.ff.ff that arrives on the bgiip but the bigip doesn't forward such packet properly and I couldn't find any way through the gui or cli.

Tried to forward udp packets without success, tried to forward icmp packets I could see that they are not forwarded as well but the ip of the bigip on 2.2.2.0/24 answers.

Searching here looks like nobody ever needed anything like that so I'm just wondering if anyone of you have an idea for an irule to use in the forwarding virtual to do the job.

Any idea is welcome.

Cheers,

Waol

  • I don't think broadcast traffic will even reach the iRules engine, but the developers would have to weigh in on that.
