F5 Migration from 3900 (11.0-HF6) to i2800 (12.1)

Hi, We have 3900 F5s running on 11.6.0.HF6 in production at the moment, and we need to replace them with i2800 series boxes. I see in the compatibility list that i2800 appliance is not compatible with 11.x firmware. Would anyone know what is the recommended path or procedure for doing this the smart way, instead manually copying the config over to the new boxes. If I do a UCS backup from 3900 11.6.HF6, would it work on i2900 12.1 version, any suggestions about this would be greatly appreciated please. Many Thanks Lovleen

  • Hello,

I am not sure that the UCS backup from 3900 11.6.HF6, will work on i2900 12.1 version. So you can upgrade your 3900 platform with 12.1 and then it will be easier to migrate.

  • Hello,

    Follow theses steps :

    • Upgrade your 3900 to 12.1.2 HF1
    • Apply the HF1 on your i2900
    • Generate a UCS backup from 3900* Copy the UCS to i2900 folder /var/local/ucs* Launch the following command with argument "no-platefor-chek no-license"

      tmsh load sys ucs config.ucs no-platform-check no-license

    • Verify if all you config. has been copied correctly
