The Step We Skipped While Talking Cloud is Soooo Cool.

I owned a book once – long since wandered off in the hands of a friend or one of my children so I can’t give proper reference – where they discuss replication teleportation. Where your pattern is transmitted, but your physical self is not. Back in the 90s, some smart folks at IBM were working on just this theory. In the book, the new copy of you wakes up and they say “congratulations, you’ve made it to Mars safely”, while the old copy of you wakes up and gets the same speech, right before the old copy is killed. The book was exploring the ethics of replication teleportation, and the fact that destroying the original before the copy was complete would be irresponsible, but destroying the original after copying was both amoral and illegal in most modern societies.
