iRule Editor Features

The recently released iRule Editor is packed with features to make your iRuling life easier. Things such as contextual highlighting, auto-complete, syntax checking, the ability to import/export code to text files…even the ability to share your code with the DevCentral community with the push of a button are all present and accounted for, and the updates keep coming, especially when you give us feedback on what’s needed.

What does that mean for you?

Well, it means that you are no longer constrained to a simple edit window (or vim for you hard core geeks out there like me). You can now develop iRules with all the bells and whistles that you’re accustomed to in those robust code editing tools you’re used to. And what’s more, you can do it without having to log into the BIG-IP GUI or CLI…even after you’re done coding and want to deploy the iRules you’ve built.

It also means that it’s easier than ever to benefit from and share with the community. Among many other slick features, the iRule Editor has a built in feature that allows you to submit your iRule to DevCentral with just a click or two. We’ll be posting those iRules up to the CodeShare after a quick review. Once posted, they’ll be available to everyone else out there using the iRule Editor’s “Templates” feature, when adding a new iRule. It’s a great way to leverage the awesome knowledge of our community to help everyone.

Take a look at the info, tutorials, DCTV clip, etc. on the iRule Editor Download page. Or, just Click Here to download the self-extracting setup and you'll be on your way.

  • Vlan, sorry for the mixup. This article was written a while ago and since then the links have changed. We usually try to catch all of these but this one seems to have slipped through the cracks. I've updated the links and they should all work now.

  • I want to add irule in a folder ,such as /Common/folder_name/irule_name,but I can'f achieve this in "File---New" in irule editor Is there a way to do this? If it is not doable at this moment, does F5 has ETA for this feature? Thanks for your great help
