Why Another Boot location for installing images?

why i need to create another boot location and then import image on that one.and then making it active partion. why so many steps...why they can't just let admin to install image on active partition ...

We required another boot location because if a new upgraded version is not working properly we can just boot with old volume instead of downgrading the software. It is a very easy method to revert.
