Which failover address gets used first in an event of network failover?

In this case, there are 3 failover IP addresses configured for use of failover: mgmt address, a self IP address in a dedicated HA VLAN, and a multicast address on the interface eth0.

Which address gets used first in the event of a network failover? Or do all of them get used at the same time?

  • The BigIP continuously sends keepalive packets to the failover addresses - you can see these with 'tcpdump -n -i udp and port 1026'. As long as the standby unit(s) see these packets, they will remain in standby state

A simultaneous failure to all addresses is required to trigger a failover.
