What client language/toolkits are you using for iControl development?

Most of the scripts have done real work with have been written in python as I decided to learn python when I started playing with iControl. That said I have also played with done a very little with Perl and Powershell as well.

 

 

Python -> pycontrol v2

 

Python -> pycontrol v1

 

Perl -> SOAP::Lite

 

Powershell -> iControl Cmdlets

I'm using C as I many of my users are admins and I don't want to embed credentials into a clear text language.

Joe: do I really need to even answer this one :)

I use c mainly because I give our developers access and they need to bulk enable and disable pool members (each server is a member of 10+ pools)

Perl. SOAP::Lite

 

 

I've also played with iControl via Objective-C. But it's just not as easy as perl (With perl there's so many more clever people contributing code that you can re-use).

C -> iControl Assembly

 

Powershell -> cmdlets && -> iControl when I need something not in a cmdlet.

 

 

Ex:

 

(Get-F5.iControl).ManagementPartition.set_active_partition($partitionname)

 

(Get-F5.iControl).SystemFailover.get_failover_state()

 

Java -> iControl Library for Java (Apache Axis based)

Ruby -> iControl library :-)

Testing out using the native JAVA API inside Jython versus pyControl. It is a little cleaner and less stuff needs to be loaded into the jython installation, plus we still get to use Python syntax to fit in with an existing solution. Been working like a charm.

 

 

Would love to hear feedback on this particular usage scenario, good or bad.
