VIP with no Pool https iRule Redirect

We have quite a few internet facing web servers that currently are setup with a HTTP and HTTPS VIP. The HTTP VIP has a HTTP Pool and the HTTPS VIP has a HTTPS Pool. Both Pools have the same members. The HTTP VIP then has an iRule that is redirecting to HTTPS.

Is there a way to setup the HTTP VIP to not have a pool, since it is just being redirected by the iRule to HTTPS, and still have the VIP show as Active (Green Dot)? I believe the iRule will work when there is not Pool selected but we would like for the VIP to still show as Active. Just curious if there is a need to have a HTTP Pool for all of these VIPS.

Thanks.

  • you can have virtual server without pool such as http virtual server with https redirection irule. anyway, i do not think there is a way to make virtual server status as active (green) without pool.
  • You could remove/delete the HTTP pool and use the HTTPS Pool for the HTTP Virtual Server, which makes sense as it's redirecting to the HTTPS Virtual Server that relies on that pool.
