vCMP and Failover
I had the same questions when I deployed 5250vs earlier this year. Think of the vcmp host as a vsphere ESX host in a vsphere cluster, they are all active, but you can build a SQL server cluster with two vms that are in an active/standby configuration that live on any hosts in the cluster. Same here, the hardware hosts are all active, you could have one BigIP pair (two vcmp guests) that is active/standby on host 1,2, and have another pair of guests that is active standby on hosts2,1 making use of the hardware resources of both hosts. Best of both worlds, HA, while maximizing your hardware resources. Yes, you do have to do the networking configuration on both hosts, adding vlans, etc, but only at the host level, not at the guest level.
