Upgrading VE from 11.6 to 12.1.x
I got a VE instance created from an image file based on 11.6.0 version. I'm using a lab license on this instance, that I got online for 99$. Now I would like to upgrade to ver. 12.1.x , so should I just fetch the iso and upgrade from F5 GUI i.e. install in new partition. Will that work fine? Or should I rather fetch new qcow2 image and create new VE instance? But I doubt the license from the 11.6 instance would work? Obviously would not like to pay another 99$ for a 2nd lic. Any hints much appreciated.

okay so I've done the upgrade of the existing VM instance to 12.1.2 HF2 and it does seem like everything works fine. I guess that is the right method then, closing this.

If the license is recent then just upgrade to ver 12.1 in the GUI using the ISO. If not you can always call F5 support to have them renew the license for you. It is permanent after all. Then you can upgrade to 12.1.x
