Jan 20, 2009UDP and TCP - 2 Virtual Servers?
I am in the process of planning a load balanced caching nameserver deployment behind a pair of LTMs running 9.4.5/HF2. DNS needs both TCP and UDP to fully function. Do I need to create two different virtual servers that listen on the same IP -- one using TCP, and another using UDP? Or.. is there a way to combine both protocols on one virtual server?
Thanks!

You can set it up as a Performance L4 type virtual on All Protocols if you don't wish to have separate ones. The downside is you won't be able to use any of the TCP profile settings to take advantage of TCP optimization, and you won't get separate statistics (which may or may not be a concern). You also wouldn't be able to use iRules that trigger off of anything higher than Layer 4 events. - Josh_41258
