snmp access works on one, not on the other

HEllo,

in one setup we have to bigIPs, one active and one failover.

I can get some stats with snmp from the standby unit, but I dont get any data from the active unit.

I did a config sync, so all the settings are on both machines the same.

Can this be a problem that the actice one has to much traffic?

I once did a test with a nagios plugins where i put the timeout to 180s, without luck.

Right now im setting up cacti, which works very nice with youre howto, but i have to monitor the traffic for our virtual_hosts, where I have no data on the standby machine.

How can I get the active unit to talk snmp?

thx a lot

When you say you don't get any data, do you mean you're not receiving any response from the BIG-IP, or that the responses it is sending are saying that there is no data for the MIBs in question?

If the configurations are indeed the same on both systems, I don't see why you wouldn't be getting similar results.

  • All my units, active & standby, work fine with snmp. Do you have the appropriate routes on both systems? If using the mgt port for this, I try not to use a default route, but specify my management destinations.
  • Hello

I can ping and ssh the active unit, but i dont get response on snmp queries,

inside cacti it did autoadd all the oid in the "Data Query [F5 BigIP - VS Statistics]" section,

on my active device there is nothing, also the Graph Templates dont get any data

I think there is no data sent at all, on my inactive device i can see a graph at the bottom,

thats not the case with the active one

here you can see that no items are received. on the other one it lists all my vhosts etc.

ata Query Name Debugging Re-Index Method Status
    1) F5 BigIP - Interface Statistics (Verbose Query) Uptime Goes Backwards Success [0 Items, 0 Rows] Reload Data Query Delete Data Query Association
    2) F5 BigIP - VS Statistics (Verbose Query) Uptime Goes Backwards Success [0 Items, 0 Rows] Reload Data Query Delete Data Query Association

    greetings

    HEiko

    Edit:

i did an snmpwlak which runs fine ont the standby on the active one:

    snmpwalk -v1 -c public 172.17.1.11 -t 180

    Timeout: No Response from 172.17.1.11

  • ok, i found the anonmalie, under seld IPs the settings for the Ip I talk to where different. hard bread.

    thx for help
