Slow HTTP Response Action

Hello

We had an issue recently where some servers in a pool began to respond slowly to HTTP requests ( 25 seconds + ). As this is a voice IVR application this is not good and caused an incident.

We have been asked to see what is possible on the LTM to mark a pool member out of service should the HTTP response times reach a certain threshold, maybe for a period of time.

In your experience what is the art of the possible? Ideally a profile or monitor would be preferable over a iRule, however, we appreciate that an iRule may be the only option.

Thanks

  • Do you have a health monitor applied to the Pool associated with your virtual server?

A properly configured health monitor would be able to detect when a pool member is not responding withing pre-defined thresholds. A default timeout for the 'http' monitor is 16 seconds. However you can create a custom monitor that meets your requirements.

The general rule is the timeout equals 3x the monitor interval + 1
