Shuffling WideIP Pools
Hi Everyone,
I am using the iControl APIs to automate WideIP changes on my Global Traffic Manager and am looking for some guidance and/or insight into the process.
The secnario: I have 1 WideIP (blahblah.com) and 2 potential pools that could bet attached to this WideIP, pool_DC1 and pool_DC2. Say each pool points to a different datacenter. At any given time, the WideIP could have a combination of 1 of the 2 pools attached or BOTH pools attached with different ratios. In order for me to automate moving from one datacenter to another, I would need to construct quite a bit of logic around if pool_1 vs. pool_2 was present and if both are present, what to remove and what to add.
This brings me to my 2 major questions:
1.) What are the implcations of me using the remove_all_wideip_pools method immediately before using add_wideip_pool method? I would imagine that this would be the most efficient way: to start from scratch and then app my new pool configuration. If I DO use these 2 methods in conjunction, do I run the risk of my users not being provided an IP address from the GTM during the brief pool configuration change? I would assume performing a remove and add back to back using the iControl API would happen in miliseconds, limiting this risk to near none.
2.) When I am manually performing this task within the GTM web gui: Add a new pool -> Remove old pool -> Click Update button, what type of operations take place? I would be eager to know if the web GUI takes into account of the pool logic and add/subtracts pools as necessary or removes all pools then adds the new configuration.
Your insight is appreciated.
Thanks!
