Can I get some help configuring SCOM to capture SNMP traps from the F5? I think I have created the SNMP trap rule correctly. But, I am not sure. Would I use the following procedure:

If you set up the SNMP trap event collection rule following the TechNet article you mentioned, your rule should be working fine. Make sure you set the target of the SNMP trap rule to "SNMP Network Device" and NOT "F5 Device". The reason for this is that the "F5 Device" monitoring class DOES NOT derive from "SNMP Network Device", so targeting an SNMP trap rule to a monitoring class that is not derived from "SNMP Network Device" would make the SCOM spin up the wrong workflows to attempt collecting and processing statistics from the SNMP device, and it would just fail.
Rules targeting the "F5 Device" monitoring class would trigger workflows in the SCOM that are tied to the F5 Management Pack / F5 Monitoring Service, and would ultimately process statistics collected from the F5 device through a native / proprietary iQuery protocol (over TCP/IP), completely different from SNMP. Statistics processing through iQuery is a lot faster than through SNMP.
The F5 Management Pack does not feature SNMP monitoring capabilities. You would set up your F5 Device SNMP traps and rules in SCOM without depending on the F5 Management Pack / F5 Monitoring Service.
I hope this would help, but if you need more assistance just let us know. And thank you for your interest in the F5 Management Pack.
