You are not forced to have an internal and an external self ip address. You can just have one Self IP to handle internal and external traffic. This is known as One arm (or one-IP) deployment :

What are the modules using and whats the configuration you want to achieve?

CirrusAs long as you have the right routing and other relevant network configuration, you can use RFC1918 IP address space on the F5. In fact, most IP address space that we use on the F5 (Self IP, Pool Members, VIP etc) are private IP address.
