Aug 02, 2011Pinging HTTP-Virtual Server
Dear all
We have a public facing website configured on f5-LTM. The Virtual server is configured to listen on and only on HTTP. We got requirement now to enable ICMP so that people can ping this website from internet. The private ip of VS is 172.16.1.1 ( example) and is natted to 100.100.100.1 on our firewall.
Kindly help me on this.
Regards
KM

Although I am no expert.... I think you will need to create a new Virtual Server listenning on icmp and then point this to the same nodes as the HTTP virtual server. - Vik_95977

I dont think you can use an iRule but I am not 100% sure. - Przemek_110000

I've got VS with listening only on HTTP and still can ping VS's IP. Maybe you got "packet filtering" enabled (by default it should be disabled) on this interface? - JRahm

Assuming you're not using a self-IP as a virtual, simply having a virtual server defined will make the IP address it shares pingable.
