Newbie to GTM: What is the Wide IP?

Hello Folks,

Sorry if the question looks too basic, but I am new to GTM and what I've heard about the Wide-IP is, it is an FQDN and host multiple VSs to present the content of that FQDN.

Does it mean that I have an authoritative zone for www.example.com and WideIP must with the same FQDN i.e. www.example.com? And the Pool i.e. Virtual Servers are the A records for the FQDN?

In which case we may have GTM's self IP address as WideIP?

Thank you folks for reading.

Cheers! Darshan

  • Each virtual server address in a GTM pool will be an A record for the wideip it is associated with. You can see this by viewing the zones in the web interface. GTM creates a zone for the wideip domain and creates an A record for each virtual server.

I'm not sure I understand the question regarding the self-ip.
