Monitoring Status of a Pool on another LTM

We currently have a solution we're trying to design which has the dependency on an "Upstream" BIGIP having access to the internet. A very simple diagram being   BIGIP02 -> 3rd Party Proxy -> BIGIP...

Is the 3rd party proxy IP-based? Such that you have to define the pool on BIGIP02 to point to it, which then points to BIGIP01? If so, one thought is to create your BIGIP02 pool to be "transparent". Enable the Transparent option in your monitor and then specify an alias address - the address of the BIGIP01 VIP.
