Modified Windows Hosts Files

If a user's pc crashes while connected to the Firepass SSL VPN it leaves an entry in the Windows hosts file. This entry appears to prevent the users mapped drives from mapping. This continues to happen even when the user is hardwired to the network. Is there a way that the Firepass unit can clear the Firepass entry in the hosts and LMHOSTS files when the user logs on to the F5?

  • I believe something is coming in 6.0.3 but I may be mistaken.

One way to get around it is to have the host file read only.
  • Hi SDR,

What function of FirePass is modifying your Host files? I know it can but perhaps the best solution here is to 'engineer' yourself out of the issue altogether? Are you using an AppTunnel or Network Access which is doing this? If so, have you considered using DNS and/or IP addresses so that your local hosts file doesn't need modification?

    Cheers,
