Maximum links in a trunk

Hi,   Can anyone confirm that the maximum number of links that can be part of a trunk is 8?   Thanks in advance.

Can't find any reference to a maximum anywhere, although the LACP standard has a maximum of 8 I believe but obviously using LACP is optional.
