LTM v11.1 Upgrade - Local Traffic Config Gone?
I'm working on upgrading a lab LTM to v11.1 to test configurations prior to upgrading production boxes and am running into an issue. After booting from the 11.1 volume, the local traffic config is gone. Almost everything from the Network and System config is present (except my DNS and NTP settings...) but all my virtual servers and pools don't load. I've looked in /var/log/ltm and there is no glaring error message as to what the problem could be. I boot back into 10.2.2 or 10.2.1 and everything is back as normal.
Originally the local device cert was expired and causing problems with the licenses after booting and I thought that was the problem. I re-generated a self signed cert, have no more license issues after booting but still no local traffic config. We only have LTM module provisioned, so this is not the APM/citrix iRule bug that is documented in a Solution Reference.
Any ideas where I can look to troubleshoot?
- nitassEmployeecan you try this command?
- hooleylistCirrostratusHi Brad,
- brad_11440NimbostratusI have opened a case with F5 support to determine the issue.
- TechgeeegNimbostratusThe configuration that you are running on version 10.x.x is not valid on the newer version of the IOS this is what I have experienced till now ... so I blv only F5 engineering team can help in this matter as to what can be done in this situation.
- brad_11440NimbostratusYea I opened a case with F5 and they said this is a common problem. The bigpipe version of the config is saved in /config/bigpipe. They had to jump into tmos and load the config that way and it worked. But the fact that this happens so frequently has scared me away from v11. Now i've got another issue - how to convert from v11 tmos style to bigpipe style syntax...which I have posted another topic here in this forum about :)
- opediggitty_692NimbostratusBrad, Can you tell me what commands that support person ran for you on this? I am really in a bind with my upgrade. I have a current case open and this guy is telling me that F5 development doesn't know how to fix this issue even though it is so common. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much in advance,
- TechgeeegNimbostratusHe he... well I blv version 11.1.0 has came like windows Vista when people were still happy with Windows XP and were not really ready to go for something like Windows Vista... well lets see... I see my understanding of the things and my concepts under swing when i got into v11 but it has some cool features.. but easy backward compatibility is a must...
- hooleylistCirrostratusReverting a newer config to an older format isn't always a simple task. Even if there weren't syntax changes, most of the time there are new features which don't exist in past versions. So how could you programmatically handle backporting a feature which doesn't exist in an older version? Realistically, the best option is to use a backup of your original 10.x config and then manually add any changes which were added to the v11 config.
- mikand_61525NimbostratusSystem -> Archive should be the way to go (but that demands that you do this BEFORE the update :P).
- hooleylistCirrostratusActually now that I think about it, it's good idea to upgrade a different slot and leave the original version/config intact. But yes, take a UCS backup beforehand as well. And copy that off the unit just in case.
- TechgeeegNimbostratusHoolio.... features are welcome but if it can't migrate my current running config to the new platform and i have to sit and do the things one by one then really then i dont call it a proper working platform where i would like to shift knowing its extra powers over the previous versions...
