AdminIs it not possible just to archive and then offline device2, install the archive onto the new unit, and then sync to it? All peer relationships should be re-established at that point preventing the need to go through that extensive process.
However, if you want to approach it that way, it seems fine with the caveat that I'd archive and sync all the systems ahead of step 1.
