LTM: Pool members using self/floating IPs of default gateway network..?
I've seen where an app will work where the pool members are using the self/floating IPs of the default gateway's network, since vlan they're in isn't configured on the F5 (thus, no self/floating IPs were created for their own network). This is without GTM, btw. If this appears to work, is it a "valid" configuration? I'd say "Nope!," but has anyone else seen that? I suppose it's a silly question, but I'm curious.
This may be a, "Yes, it might work, but here's why you don't do that," sort of question.
Thanks!
Nodes/pool members and Virtual servers/virtual addresses could be attached to vlans without having an ip address in the same range as the Vlan, so this case you need to make the routing to bring the traffic to the F5 VS and routing to reach the pool members (in your case the default gateway as you do not have a better route), so it is a possible config and everything is possible with F5 🙂 .
