linerate not configured for free tier, should I be able to experiment with it?
Hi,
I've setup the linerate free trial (v2.6.1) inside a firewall, and cannot call home so can't setup the license. Do I still have full functionality?

Hi Ilari,
You can get the free license activated by following the steps here: https://docs.lineratesystems.com/093Release_2.5.2/100Getting_Started_Guide/130Configuring_Licensing/Manually_Installing_a_Purchased_License
After that, your installation should start passing traffic.

Ilari,
The LineRate free tier / starter license requires online activation. You'll have to permit traffic from the LineRate system to
,activate.f5.com:443
andlogin.f5.com:443
through your firewall for successful activation.ihealth-api.f5.com:443
Once the license activates, it will be good for 14 days at which point it will need to access those f5 servers again to renew the license activation. If you want, you can add the firewall rules, let the LineRate system activate the license and then remove the firewall rules, but you'd have to do this every two weeks to continue to use the system.
In addition to the documentation that Andrew provided in the other comment, be sure to add "activation auto" to the licensing configuration like this:
config licensing activation auto

Hi,
thanks for the quick reply! We are using a proxy (like for http and https traffic thru our firewall. Is it possible to set that up somehow for the Linerate system?

Hi Ilari,
Based on the information you have provided it appears you are after a forward proxy solution/configuration. You can look at this in the 'Getting Started Guide' of v2.6.1: http://docs.lineratesystems.com/087Release_2.6.1/100Getting_Started_Guide/Configuring_a_Forward_Proxy
If you are after a reverse proxy solution, you can read about it here: http://docs.lineratesystems.com/087Release_2.6.1/100Getting_Started_Guide/Configuring_a_Reverse_Proxy
If the command-line interface (CLI) is not your thing, you may refer to LineRate's Manager for configuration and management: http://docs.lineratesystems.com/087Release_2.6.1/225LineRate_Manager_Guide http://docs.lineratesystems.com/087Release_2.6.1/225LineRate_Manager_Guide/Configuring_Proxies
Get back to us if you need further assistance.

I'm not looking for setting up proxies particularly. We have a system setup inside a firewall and no traffic is supposed to go to the internet under any circumstance. I can setup the http/s proxy in bash of the f5 Linerate, and ping the activate.f5.com and callhome addresses just fine, but the proxy setting is not in effect when trying to activate via web UI or CLI.

Ilari,
Please see my response to a similar question here. Using a proxy for licensing does not work, unfortunately.
