Is it possible to Load balance XMPP, Jabber applications on F5 BigIP

Hey Gurus,

Has anyone worked on this before.

Need to load balance XMPP, jabber applications on F5 BigIP.

If yes what are the possible solutions for this.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks,

KD.
  • Also does bigIP supports a proxy of the protocals to a pool of servers

We should be able to, especially if you are using HTTP binding.

If not, still probably yes. LTM has specific options for handling both XML and SIP now, not sure if those can be directly leveraged, but if not, you should be able to manage traffic using the more generic transport layer options (including iRules for persistence etc if necessary) that we previously leveraged to manage those protocols. We may also be able to offload encryption.

  • Were you able to find a solution for load balancing XMPP/Jabber application?

We are trying same with no luck so far.

  • We tried load balancing and were not able to obtain session affinity - load balancing of course works fine - but am surprised that session affinity is not working - and the servers behind the F5 were clustered (using Openfire/Coherence) - but it always created a new session on failover.

Anyone run into something similar ? Any F5 gurus that can help ?
  • I am trying to support Cisco Jabber Video for Telepresence on APM (Edge gateway). The application works on Firepass but does not work on APM.

Does anyone know how to get this working in APM

  • I too would love to know how to do this, and am not having much luck.

Also, does any know whether or not the APM with DTLS can terminate the new JabberClient with integrated SucereConnect?

I don't want to have to buy a new set of Cisco ASAs
