I attempted this and i keep getting Login failed.
My credentials works if i use via brower or if i use the base url.
curl -L -u username -H “Content-Type: application/json” -vkX GET
I get re-directed back to login page if i use lynx(ncurser based browser)

You should use iControl Rest API instead :
