GTM iRule using WIP statistics without LTM

I am trying to setup GTM to load balance against a set of resources in two data centers. LTM is not being used at either of the data centers. Each of the servers have a license connection limit that I don't want to exceed, and I would like to use the current connection value to influence the GTM response. I can get the value from the servers using SNMP.

 

 

Would it be possible to create a custom monitor that would allow me to snmp query each of my servers for their current connection count, and then use this value in an iRule? I know this is getting complex, but I am looking for ideas on how can tackle this.
