Nov 09, 2009Firepass Windows Mobile client crashes HTC Touch Pro 2
I have a Verizon HTC Touch Pro 2. No matter what ROM I try, no matter what I do, from a clean install I run the CAB file for F5 Firepass VPN full net access. Following installation, it says it needs to reboot. This causes the device to go into an endless reboot cycle. There is nothing I can seem to do to prevent it.. and since I can't get into the OS at all except to hard reset, all information about what the problem might be is erased!
F5 Support has been little help, and I have no idea how old this client is but it's quite annoying that I cannot VPN into work.
Anyone have any ideas? Solutions? Other versions of this client? It's driving me nuts! Firepass controller is on 6.1.0 but the mobile client has been the same since we got the unit and 6.0.2 was current.

Managed to find a very helpful individual in F5 support.. He has a beta version of a new installer that will be out with the next 6.1.0 patch. This seems to have resolved the issue of constant reboot after installation! - Jim_38033

Hi all - Noob here!
Been snooping around for a while and got some pretty useful information but i've now hit a brick wall!
I'm trying to access my coporate WAN using the "F5 BIG-IP Edge Client, Version 3.0 Build 6035, 2009, 1110, 0942" downloaded from Ender519's megashare link - Thanks Ender519 ;-)
I'ts installed on a HTC HD2 WinMo 6.5 Professional (Build 21889.5.0.87).
I have spent hours trying to get the client to connect via 3G but to no avail. Done all the proxy exceptions stuff etc.......
Is there anyone out there who has managed to successfully connect using an HTC HD2 on WinMo 6.5 or anyone that can offer me any further advice before I launch the phone thru the office window??
Much respect in advance and thanks a lot!! - Ender519_104469

I currently use EnergyROM (latest and greatest), have also used VZW stock and MightyROM. Nevertheless, it's never "not installed". I've tried it on several phones at work that were WinMo and they all worked, so I'm gonna have to call that to be an issue with your phone. Either something that is installed on it, or the ROM itself. Try hard reset and install the CAB first thing. - wavezero_97711

damn. I'm on sprint, maybe that has something to do with it (but it shouldn't). it was the first thing I tried to install after a hard reset. My home computer is a mac, and as far as I know, i can't unlock my tp2 on anything but a pc to flash custom roms from the micro sd. Guess i'm up a creek... - wavezero_97711

So it appears my non-install issue is function of downloading the cab on a windows 7 machine and transfering it over to my phone. (had a similar issue with a different cab and downloaded directly to my phone and it worked just fine).
Opera or Pie is not working on megashare, any chance you can upload the cab directly to ppcg? I have a thread going already: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=127972 (Anyone have a f5 networks firepass vpn for wm that won't crash the tp2?)
Thanks a ton! - Ender519_104469

Here is my dilemma.. I tried to upload it directly to these forums but it would not allow the file type.. I then tried it ZIP it and it wouldn't allow that either.. so I started looking at free filesharing and the problem was most of those sites allow you to host it for free for like 10 downloads, but then it doesn't work. MegaShare was one of the few without that limitation. I don't want to host it on my personal site because I'm not certain of the legal ramifications of doing so, so MegaShare was also a way to host it anonymously.
I can tell you that I have copied over the CAB file many, many times from Win7 x64 to my phone using USB, and it installed just fine.
Don't lose sight of the fact that you will likely be disappointed when you DO get this client working.. it just isn't that great of a client and it does make me frustrated when I try to use it. I've been using it for a couple years now, through various WinMo phones from version 5 to 6.5.5 and have never gotten it to initate when it should, or stay stable for longer than several minutes. Further, anytime I connect to VPN there's always some jerk who decides to TXT me or call me at which point I have to do the dance all over again. The client over the years has never improved.. even this one that I'm linking is the same as the old one, except it doesn't crash the phone from the install. I think this client was originally developed for WinMo 2003/5 and has not been updated in any meaningful manner since, except what little bit is needed to make it run on newer phones. I have no hope of it ever improving either, why should they when WinMo is basically a "dead" OS. Microsoft is dropping it and WinMo is such a small share of the network market anymore there would be no money in developing a better client for them.
IPsec/L2TP is *far* more stable and has the added benefit of being compatible with darn near anything (iphone, droid, winmo, blackberry) and I think this is ultimately the direction you will need to go. You can't do this with FirePass, but surely you have a firewall that can easily do this. - wavezero_97711

I talked a sprint repair manager and fellow geeker yesterday about something else and she mentioned that she had problems with here tp2 getting cabs to load based on how she brought them to her device. She was also on Win7 x64. Maybe a sprint issue. I've never had issues uplaoding cabs to ppcg... Weirdness. Now that I know what the issue is I'll try to get creative in the solution...
