Nov 09, 2009Firepass Windows Mobile client crashes HTC Touch Pro 2
I have a Verizon HTC Touch Pro 2. No matter what ROM I try, no matter what I do, from a clean install I run the CAB file for F5 Firepass VPN full net access. Following installation, it says it needs...

So it appears my non-install issue is function of downloading the cab on a windows 7 machine and transfering it over to my phone. (had a similar issue with a different cab and downloaded directly to my phone and it worked just fine).
Opera or Pie is not working on megashare, any chance you can upload the cab directly to ppcg? I have a thread going already: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=127972 (Anyone have a f5 networks firepass vpn for wm that won't crash the tp2?)
Thanks a ton!
Here is my dilemma.. I tried to upload it directly to these forums but it would not allow the file type.. I then tried it ZIP it and it wouldn't allow that either.. so I started looking at free filesharing and the problem was most of those sites allow you to host it for free for like 10 downloads, but then it doesn't work. MegaShare was one of the few without that limitation. I don't want to host it on my personal site because I'm not certain of the legal ramifications of doing so, so MegaShare was also a way to host it anonymously.
I can tell you that I have copied over the CAB file many, many times from Win7 x64 to my phone using USB, and it installed just fine.
Don't lose sight of the fact that you will likely be disappointed when you DO get this client working.. it just isn't that great of a client and it does make me frustrated when I try to use it. I've been using it for a couple years now, through various WinMo phones from version 5 to 6.5.5 and have never gotten it to initate when it should, or stay stable for longer than several minutes. Further, anytime I connect to VPN there's always some jerk who decides to TXT me or call me at which point I have to do the dance all over again. The client over the years has never improved.. even this one that I'm linking is the same as the old one, except it doesn't crash the phone from the install. I think this client was originally developed for WinMo 2003/5 and has not been updated in any meaningful manner since, except what little bit is needed to make it run on newer phones. I have no hope of it ever improving either, why should they when WinMo is basically a "dead" OS. Microsoft is dropping it and WinMo is such a small share of the network market anymore there would be no money in developing a better client for them.
IPsec/L2TP is *far* more stable and has the added benefit of being compatible with darn near anything (iphone, droid, winmo, blackberry) and I think this is ultimately the direction you will need to go. You can't do this with FirePass, but surely you have a firewall that can easily do this.
