It seems like 10.2.0 is not offered as trial and is compatible with VMware ESX/ESXi 4.0. I don't think you could install it in VMware Workstation/Player.

10.2 is not available in trial form, but is available in lab and production versions.
You can get a 10.1.0 trial BIG-IP VE from this link, which also contains links to manuals - which give a good overview of how to go about installing the trial edition and getting it up and running:

Hi All,
I am very new to F5. Currently I am struggling for setting up f5 in VMWARE. Let me tell you bit background what I am doing.
I downloaded F5 LTM VM version 10.1 and installed into VMWARE workstation 7. I successfully installed and assigned mgmt IP (192.168.168.1). I want to test capturing credit card number from http traffic and convert real CC number into some dummy CC number.
So far I have 3 systems in my test room.
1> Windows XP with sp3. Here I installed VMWARE workstation 7.0 and loaded f5 VM LTM
2> Windows XP with MS IIS running with sample html script
3> Windows 7 Test machine
So as per document, I have assigned two VLANs. Internal VLAN with self IP 192.168.1.84 and external VLAN with self IP 192.168.2.84
I would like to connected IIS server into internal network and Windows 7 machine into external network. As you see, I am using virtual instance so do not understand how I can achieve this. F5 virtual instance has three virtual interfaces, one for mgmt in bridge mode and two are in host-only mode.
Can any one help me to setup this environment? I am strugling since last 3 days and I have to demonstrate by this Friday. So I have do or die situation.
I appreciate if some one for you help me to save my job.
Thanks, - hoolio

Hi Narenda,
It might be simpler to configure all the non-virtual hosts on the same network subnet (including your workstation that's running vmware workstation. Using two VLANs for clients and servers requires you have either two physical NICs in the host or support for VLAN tags on the switch.
With a single network, you will need a few new IP addresses for the virtual server and self IP address. You can then do the following:
1. In the Vmware virtual machine settings, configure Network Adapter 2 as Bridged to the physical network.
2. In LTM, this will be the first switch port 1.1. Configure a single VLAN with 1.1 as the port.
3. In LTM, configure a self IP address on a free IP address
4. In LTM, configure a virtual server on a second free IP address. Make sure to enable SNAT automap on the virtual server.
5. In LTM, configure the pool for the virtual server with the IIS IP address
You should then be able to connect from any host on the subnet to the LTM virtual server.

Hi Hoolio,
I followed above steps and I think it get progress. I can ping all machine in 192.168.1.x subnet.
So I created one VLAN and assigned self IP is 192.168.1.84. I have IIS server (192.168.1.88) and created virtual server (192.168.1.87) with SNAT automap enabled. I have test machine with IP 192.168.1.90.
I can ping IIS server from my test machine and vice a versa. I can browse IIS server from test machine typing http://192.168.1.88.
Now I want to test iRule. let us say when I browse my IIS server, it ask me to eneter credit card number. When I enter real CC number and press submit button, f5 should capture http traffic, convert real CC number into dummy number and give me back that dummy number.
Can you please help me how I can achieve this?
Or any other test that will show me that f5 capture traffic.
thanks, - Narendra_65803

Hi Hoolio,
I did some testing and dought that http traffic is getting capture by f5. I do not understand how I can verify that http is passing through f5.
I have f5 in VMWARE image and single network segment 192.168.1.x. All systems are connected to single L2 switch.
So when I access IIS server (192.168.1.88) from test server (192.168.1.90), request goes directly and does not go through f5.
F5 virtual instance has three virtual interfaces. One for management and it is in bridge mode. Remaining two were in host-only mode.
based on your suggestion, I changed one interface from host-only to bridge and created VLAN and associated interface with VLAN.
I am not clear how to test whether traffic is capturing by F5.
Does any one has tested f5 with single network segment? If yes then how did it work? I can not find any forum that talk about this configuration.
I appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Narendra
