Mar 27, 2008F5 Virtual Appliance
When is F5 going to develop a Virtual Appliance for LTM, GTM, and other options. One of your competitors, Zeus (http://www.zeus.com/products/zxtmva/) has had one for over two years.
I am a happy F5 customer but would like more options. A virtual appliance would provide a way for customers and potential customers to demo the products with no hardware required and would be perfect for development & test environments. Zeus allows limited usage of their virtual appliance for dev/test environments for free - hint hint F5.

Hi MW,
You can request up to four 90 eval keys here:
https://www.f5.com/trial/secure/generate-eval-key.php
I was able to generate two sets of four, so I assume there isn't a limit that F5 is enforcing. And I would guess that you'll be able to generate more keys down the road. So I wouldn't worry about exactly when to start the eval.

Is step 24 of the release notes on the initial config correct in that you assign both the internal and external networks to the same interface (1.1 in the release notes?)
That does not work for me. The save function fails because the 1.1 interface is on the "internal" network. If I put the external adapter on the other adapter (1.2) it saves, but I cannot connect to any of my potential test pool members. Our existing LTMs are still running v9 software and they have a default vlan set up as the external vlan. Setting that up has no effect. Any ideas/pointers? - Justin1

Yes internal is 1.1 and external is 1.2. I let mine choose it's own VLAN Tag ID on both internal and external. I used 2 different private address ranges for both internal and external. I created my virtual server to be on port 80 with an IP address that was the IP address I setup as the external address that I noted down and created my pool (with a http monitor) and pool members to also be on port 80 with Load Balancing Method set just to round robin at the moment. I made sure IIS was installed on my pool members and the health monitors showed all green on the pool members.
I then tried to connect to the web address the one I noted down from a machine on the same subnet as my external range and it connected fine (I am having a bit of trouble however with it actually round robining properly) but if I disable a node then I see it going to the other web server (I created an index.html page for each server with just some text to destinguish where the content is coming from)
Even though it says that a redundant setup configuration is not supported I think I have managed to get it going nicely but need to test it a bit more. I hope F5 have longer than 90 day licences for test environments. - Justin1

Is there likely going to be a longer trial key or a production type key for a test environment? If there is what is the process of getting some. - Xavier_99562

Hello Everyone,
I am a newbie as well, trying to get the BIP-IP VE v10 up and running. I am running VMware Workstation 7.0.1 and downloaded the appropriate installation image for F5. Attached are the screen shots to show: the initial BIG-IP config within VMware Workstation and the screen that appears once started.
The issue: login username and password. I have not been able to find this in any of the documents. When reading the vmware-vdi-big-ip-v10-dg.pdf it appears that the virtual environment should start in the GUI. Is that the case? Any advice to move forward?
Thanks in advance,

Does anyone know of any pricing information for a more permanent license? I'd love to have a couple of these for my lab! - Erik_Giesa_26Historic F5 Account
Derek,
Sorry for the late reply but we had to wait to publicly discuss price until we announced the availability of the BIG-IP LTM VE Lab Edition as well as production version. You can get a lab edition for $995 list price. It's a fully functional and permanent version. - kiran_bhogadi_5

Just getting my hands on F5 and I need to write some rules and play with F5. Found this topic while searching for any such simulator etc. We only have F5 available on prod environment and I am not sure - as a F5 newbie - if I want to develop/test in a real environment (even *if* I get access to it.)
