F5 VELOS Backplane Inter-Tenants Communication

Hello,

I’m looking for official documentation confirming whether inter-tenant communication between different tenants within the same chassis partition over the VELOS backplane is supported without requiring an external routing device. I haven’t been able to find clear guidance on this, so any assistance would be helpful.

Regards

  • Hi Saad_Deif, tenants on the same VLAN within the same partition are Layer 2 adjacent and can communicate with each other without the need for an external routing device.

The Planning for VELOS Guide sheds some light on this. While it may not explicitly state what you asking about, there are statements that imply tenant to tenant communication within a partition is supported, such as this one in the VLANs section:

"VLAN IDs (which may or may not be the same logical VLAN) can be re-used across different chassis partitions, and tenants within a chassis partition can share the same VLANs. Any VLANs that are configured on different chassis partitions will not be able to communicate inside the chassis, they will need to be connected via an external switch to facilitate communication between them."

Check out the VELOS Networking section of the guide for more details.

    I hope that helps!
