F5 upgrade from 10.x to 11.x and exchange 2010 config
We configured Exchange using an the template that came with 9.x version and that is no longer supported by F5.
Per F5 documentation - http://www.f5.com/pdf/deployment-guides/microsoft-exchange-2010-2013-iapp-dg.pdf “You cannot upgrade an application service that was based on the f5.microsoft.exchange_2010 template; you can only upgrade if you used one of the downloadable iApp templates.”
I am assuming the configuration backup will retain the settings we configured with the old template and continue to work after F5 upgrade.
•Does F5 recommend using the newer templates with the F5 upgrade? •If we want to use any of newer settings like advanced health monitors or make any changes which require using the new template will they override the previous configuration?

Hi Lavanya, iApps didn't exist in BIG-IP v10. Instead, we had configuration wizards that you would run only once to deploy Exchange. These have nothing to do with iApps and the configuration should be retained.
We do recommend deploying with the latest version of the Exchange iApp in v11 (not f5.microsoft.exchange_2010) to get the recommended settings. This iApp can be found on downloads.f5.com in the iApp templates zip file. You can deploy side-by-side using the iApp, but you must use a different virtual server IP address to avoid a conflict with the existing deployment.
I also recommend opening a pre-upgrade support case with F5, since they will be able to help you with any issues that arise.
thanks

Just trying to do the right thing, may I ask how much advance notice would F5 Support generally like for a pre-upgrade support case? - mikeshimkus_111Historic F5 AccountI'm not sure, but I wouldn't wait until the day of to do it. :-)

Thank you Mike.
Sorry I am just an exchange person, my F5 knowledge is limited.
Per the below statement from your reply, I am understanding that we should reconfigure Exchange with new iApps. The current config with old template will continue to work, but to take advantage of new features use iAPP. Using iAPP requires complete reconfig using new VIPs. Can you please confirm?

Our hosting provider is working with F5 and as I have asked them to check on this as well. Again, thanks for your help.
- mikeshimkus_111Historic F5 AccountYes, you'll need to deploy a new set of configuration objects using the iApp. If you have all of the information on hand, this should take no more than about 5 minutes. You can use a different IP address for the new deployment and switch DNS over later, or change the VIP address of the existing deployment prior to running the iApp.
