F5 LTM upgrade with Hotfix 11.6.0-HF7

Hi,

I'm planning to upgrade the LTMs-Big-IP_2000 to versions 11.6.0 with HF7, from its current version 11.4.1

I have done similar upgrades last year- from version 10.2.4 to 11.5.1 with HF4, where I have copied the 11.5.1 and the hotfix images on to the box. Navigated to hotfix list and selected the hotfix HF4, and clicked on Install by select the appropriate partition. Though I have tried to install the hotfix, BigIP is intelligent enough to install the base image and then the hotfix.

With the current upgrade plan, can I proceed with same process? where I just click on install of the hotfix HF7, where it can intelligently install the base image 11.6.0?

  • Hi,

Yes, you can follow the same process as you did for earlier upgrades. Please make sure to re-activate the software license before install the Hotfix.

sure, no problem with that. keep in mind re-active can cause a small interruption.

if you want to be very safe then just do another install.

I'd also comment that its not a necessity to re-activate the license - only if the service is past its license check date - or you're stepping up a major software version.

I've also had more sucess with re-licencing using the command line, then issuing a

tmsh save sys config partitions all .

Do this BEFORE you boot into your new software version - That's when it does the code conversion etc.
