F5 does not send tcp reset on reboot
Hi all,
I have a pair of LTM 11.6.0 HF6 VE F5 nodes, when i power the standby down and then reboot the Active i don't see a TCP RST sent to the clients. Is this something to do with the floating IP or am i missing something in Config.
cheers

Hi,
why should the BIG-IP send a TCP Reset? A TCP Reset is sent, i.e. when a listener is closed or just not there (as long as the system is able to respond, which is of course not possible during the reboot).
The BIG-IP does not indicate a failover to the client. There is no reason for this. Active Connections may break, when they are not mirrored to the standby node, and if the protocol or application used is not able to re-initiate the connection without producing errors, like databases with their persistent connections. But especially this depends on your topology and configuration or virtual server type.

A reboot does not cause the device to reset all connections in the connection table. This would simply be too ressource incentive.
However, subsequent traffic after the reboot should cause resets, as the corresponding connection entries will be missing. Keep in mind that then the RST rate is limited, see below:
