MVPwith thin provisioning the system has to allocate the space when it is needed, it might then not be available or take time. with thick provisioning the system will allocate the space right away and you are sure you will get it in time.
it is not "best practice" per se to do thin provisioning in lab environments in my opinion, but because space is probably more limited you will end up doing so.
