NimbostratusExternal & Internal VLAN
Hi,
I am new to F5 devices. We have to install 2 BIG-IP LTM 1600 devices in active/standby mode. I need to know what are Internal & External VLANs?
As per my knowledge Internal VLAN is that which connects to internal physical servers to be load balanced & External is that which will be connected to external network through switch.
1. Should Internal VLANs be in the range of private IP? eg: 192.168.x.x
2. Should External VLANs be in the range of publically routed IP?
If this is the case, how will the communication happen in those two different networks? does LTM supports interVLAN routing?

How you configure your IP addressing for either VLAN is entirely up to you. Whatever you configure, yes LTM will route between the VLANs but note this is only where the traffic is handled by a Virtual Server or S/NAT. Other traffic is dropped by default. If you want to change this behaviour you can configure routing virtual servers.- Zvone_CRO_12312

I have had the same case and yes my Internal VLAN was on Application subnet, the same one is used for servers so you don't need any additional routing between those.
External VLAN (i.e public VLAN) was on different subnet and proper routing must be done in order for clients (or other network elements) to see LB (Virtual IP is used for external clients).
And as "What Lies Beneath" said usage of SNATs should come in handy also.
