Nov 21, 2009Errors with accounts password changes in 9.x
I recently purchased some NIB load balancers from a used resaler. I have them semi set up, unfortunately I can not seem to change the passwords on the admin or root users. Every time I try to it says :
01070099:3: Can't change user password for user admin (couldn't open `/etc/passwd': Permission denied)
I am totally stumped, I have never had this issue on any F5s before.
I am running BIG-IP 9.1.2 Build 40.2
My new start up does not have a lot of money so we can't put a support contract on them now. I was curious if anyone has run into this issue.
Cheers

I have fixed it, apparently it looks like one of the versions of the pre-installed OS has some types of locking issue. Both LB's displayed this behavior while using the out of the box default boot partition. After using the switchboot and changing to the non default the file system no longer had a locking issue.
