Dynamic Ratio load balancing in order to load balance my traffic based on the CPU questions?

Dears,

I want to configure a Dynamic Ratio load balancing for my web servers in order to load balance my traffic based on the CPU, memory utilization of the servers and as I have understood that snmp_dca monitor is responsible about pooling the required information of CPU and memory from the servers.

I have two questions as follows:

1- snmp_dca health monitor is a node based monitor enabled under the node health monitor but not available per pool so I was wondering if enable it under the node will be enough and dynamic ratio load balance will be able to use the health monitor (snmp_dca) enabled under the node without having the option to enable it under the pool? Or we should have a way to enable it under the pool?

2- Do we need a SNMP agent installed in the windows 2008R server to enable the snmp_dca monitor works properly with the server or SNMP agent is enabled by default in windows 2008 server?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards, Muhannad

Hi Muhannad, you'll need to use Dynamic Ratio (Node) load balancing at the pool level after you've applied the monitor at the node level.

I think you'll need to install SNMP on your server: http://blog.skufel.net/2012/09/how-to-adding-snmp-to-windows-server-2008-r2/

In case you don't want to install SNMP, F5 also provides detailed instructions on using WMI monitors for Dynamic Ratio LB here: https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_ltm/manuals/product/ltm-concepts-11-5-0/21.html?sr=35364066

    Thanks for your response.

i am wondering if LTM using any Community strings and how we can configure it, so it will be able to accesse the information on server via SNMP?

Thanks in advance for your help.
