Does remote access on mssql have to be enabled for monitoring to work?

I have been using a third party application for monitoring of my mssql databases availability. The issue i am having is that in order for it to work i must enable remote access in order for the application to do its work. I would like to know if this is also needed with f5 mssql monitor.&nbsp;

The BigIP SQL monitors work by sending SQL queries to the pool members. If they're not listening for SQL connections from remote devices, then obviously those queries will not succeed.&nbsp;
Alternatively, you could use a different type of monitor, such as a ping, or tcp connection, but that wouldn't give you the same level of monitoring that an actual SQL query would provide.&nbsp;
